Ultra Bond's Crack Master Windshield Repair Tools are for the professional windshield repair technicians. Curing the repair is not to be taken lightly. It only takes 1- 3 minutes to do it right with sunlight or a low intensity 365 nm UV fluorescent light or a filtered and uniform LED light. DO NOT USE OTHER LED CURING LIGHTS. LEDs do not cure at a uniform rate unless they are filtered which can cause tension and weak spots in the cured resin.
Curing UV resin too quickly with high-intensity, non-uniform light sources causes weak spots, internal stress, and polymer chain defects.
The rapid hardening process limits the resin's structural integrity through several mechanisms:
- Volumetric Shrinkage and Stress: As monomers cross-link and transform into polymers, they draw closer together, causing the resin to shrink. Curing too quickly traps this shrinkage stress inside the polymer matrix, which can cause micro-cracking or warping over time.
- Incomplete Polymerization: High-intensity light can cause the surface layer of the resin to harden almost instantly, blocking light from penetrating deeper into the material. This leaves an uncured or partially cured liquid/gel core that is weak and prone to delamination.
- Exothermic Heat Spikes: High-intensity UV light generates intense localized heat. Rapid temperature spikes combined with uneven curing cause thermal expansion and contraction, further degrading the polymer chain structure.
There are Three Types of Curing Methods:
- Distance Modulation (The Inverse-Square" Ramp)
- Manual Pulse Curing (Duty Cyling)
- Spatial Uniformity (Sweeping)
The NEW Bond Wand for 2025 uses two curing methods on cracks:
Distance Modulation for:
- Stage 1 (Gel Phase),
- Stage 2 (Bulk Cure) and
- Stage 3 (Final Harding).
The second method used simutanioisly is Spatial Uniformity (sweeping) because long cracks are rarely completely straight and cannot be compeletly covered at the same time by any light other than sunlight.
The Bond Wand has the highest test scores of any windshield repair light ever tested. It increases the strength by 5 -12 % on our chips and all of our crack resins from 100cps - 2400cps are unbreakable. We have made this new custom LED Curing light that first lights up a special polymeric cover which then emits uniform UV Energy through the other side of the cover. The cover also reduces the intensity while emitting uniform UV Energy through the cover. This is the ONLY LED Curing light currently on the market that can be used for curing windshield crack repairs. The new Bond Wand has a 60 second cure time and the highest lab test score of any light tested on the market.
Other LED lights are not filtered or uniform, age over time and progressively get dimmer until they stop working altogether. This is called “lumen degradation” or “LED degradation” and each bulb is giving off a different intensity and degrades at different rate. That is why it has to first light up and go through another surface in order to give out uniform UV energy and there can be little to NO space in-between LED bulbs.
Our Inside Curing Light is the first inside curing light ever made. It is mounted on the inside of the windshield to cure under pressure or not cure cure under pressure and penetrates through the PVB - turning the PVB into a very low intensisty curing source that puts the resin into the Gel Phase and Bulk Phase while on the inside. Stage 3-FInal Harding is on the outside for 30 second while curing the pit.
Having the PVB being the curing source has created a tight bond where the glass and the legs, cracks and bullseye meet the PVB. This has created a significant visual improvement. Star-Breaks virtually disappear. Strength tests also show an increase in the mechanical strength of the repairs. Average cure time curing from inside is 2-3 minutes.
Ultra Bond repairs restore 100% strength as a four-part system of: (1) resin; (2) custom repair tool - (2a) Bridge, (2b) Injector; (3) methods to fill (Flex and Release with the Wonder Bar Bridge); (4) cure - (4a) cure method, (4b) cure source, (4c) time (4d) uniformity and (4e) intensity. Altering any part of the Ultra Bond system can reduce the strength of any repair.
A 365 nm UV Light Meter, as shown in the videos below is an invaluable tool to have and generally ranges from $130-$200 . You can check and measure sunlight and your curing lights at any time.
